The 2015 Uhrenholt Christmas Donation goes to DINNoedhjaelp
Every year at Christmas Uhrenholt donates DKK 100.000 to a humanitarian cause instead of giving away Christmas presents. The Donation must comply with our donation policy emphasising “market relevance to our brands”, “charity”, “children” and “making a difference”.
This years donation goes to the Danish organisation DINNoedhjaelp operating in Nigeria. A market we operate in with our brand Emborg.
DINNoedhjaelp runs a home for the so-called witch children that due to superstition have been accused of being possessed by evil spirits. These children are often killed or tortured and excluded from their families and societies.
The organisation was founded by Anja Ringgren Lovén in 2012 and solely depends on volunteering. This means that all donations are used exclusively for the purpose of giving these children a decent life.
The accusations of being a witch child is an increasing problem in many African countries, especially in Nigeria. The accusations are often due to death and sickness in the family, crop failure, layoffs or infertility. According to African beliefs all things have supernatural causes, and in most cases the children are the scapegoats.
Our donation goes to the home in Nigeria that takes care of the witch children. The organisation helps the children by caring for them, sending them to school and trying to reestablish contact to their families by taking them on home visits.
