Portfolio Management

Portfolio Management covers several disciplines within the area of category management, new product development and product master data. Our portfolio of products is the basis of our business and the key to delivering on market-driven food solutions. Therefore, the portfolio is regularly evaluated in terms of profitability, market relevance, possible upgrades or phase-outs. It is Portfolio Management’s responsibility to act on the decisions made in close cooperation with market sales teams.

New Product Development (NPD)

Our portfolio of products must constantly be updated with new product introductions to ensure that we stay relevant with consumers and distribution partners. Consequently, innovation and product development has high priority within the organisation with senior management being present on the launch board that evaluates when product ideas proceed to development and implementation phases. Decisions are based on business cases containing category trends and market data as well as estimated turnover and earnings, because bringing new products to market is a costly affair that must be covered over time.

Portfolio Management drives the NPD process in close cooperation with several other departments that supply data, designs and declarations. The process is managed by a workflow system that informs parties of when information and sub-tasks are due. To align expectations, the team works with both short and long term innovation plans that stipulate our intentions regarding new product introductions. Despite plans and procedures, at Uhrenholt we seek to be flexible and agile to ensure that we can always act on a good idea!

Product Information Management (PIM)

Master Data is a single source of common business data used across multiple systems, applications and processes. At Uhrenholt, our master data resides in our Product Information Management (PIM) system, which in turn feeds our essential operating tools; the on-premises ERP system AX and the web-based Product Portal. Portfolio Management oversees the Product Portal, which contains searchable master data on most item numbers. It is imperative that the information is current and true to avoid mistakes when markets have differing rules and regulations on packaging and carton labelling. The Product Portal gives a clear overview of item labelling and which items or variants are intended for which markets. This is an essential service to staff throughout the organisation to ensure that they have correct information at hand and can perform at their best.
